Fear Setting (Process)

Page 1: Define, Prevent, Repair

Make three lists with 10–20 entries each.

  1. Define
    1. What are the worst things could happen?
    2. What's the vision/scenario you're most afraid of?
    3. How is this fear affecting you?
  2. Prevent
    1. How could I prevent each from happening?
      1. What's within your control?
    2. What do you currently do to prevent/avoid bad things happening?
  3. Repair
    1. If the worst happens, how can I fix it?
    2. How could you get back to exactly where you are now?

Page 2: Benefits of action

Make a list of the possible benefits if successful or partially successful.

Page 3: Cost of inaction

Make three lists of the costs of your inaction. In other words, if I avoid doing this thing what might I miss out on?

Page 4: DO NOW

Define 1 (one!) thing you could do now, just to start building momentum on the journey.

Do it now, or schedule it.

Now, for a brief moment, imagine doing and saying the things we avoid.

Are you afraid of quitting your stressful job?
Are you afraid to speak your mind to a friend or spouse?
Are you afraid to ask for a raise you deserve?
Are you afraid to take a year off life?
Are you afraid to ask for forgiveness?
